about

Music with Mark:
I sat down one night in the mood to rock out and composed the instrumental part of this song instead. Not much to say other than I love The Ocean off of U2's first album. It's a brilliantly understated tune stuck right in the middle of their post-punk euro-pop of the early 80's. It's just a couple guitars chiming away, really chilled out. I am not sure if Rock's lyrics are referring to the intentional dissonance that crops up here and there in my back track, but it'd be fitting. I also can't, for the life of me, figure out the proper chord voicings. Should be a fun go on stage. Man, I gotta write this stuff down.

Chatter with Rock:
I love this song, very different vibe than anything else we've done... A very stripped down dark tune. I had just finished up a long night in the studio around midnight and was pretty drained. I was just about to head to bed when this song came on in itunes and of course captivated me instantly. I'm like a dog with a bone, once I get that first bit rolling I have to finish the whole thing. The music fit the mood I was in at the time perfectly... Damn you Mark and your seemingly endless pile of inspirational music. By 4 AM I had the song emailed back to Mark and we had the 10th track.

Lyrically it's about being close with people who at one point pushed you towards your dreams, but begin to lash back at you when you get closer to them. Almost like your success is their failure or something. Being taken seriously by the people you surround yourself with, and who mean the most to you is one of the biggest daily challenges I face. Why certain people feel it is their personal duty to keep others grounded constantly is beyond me. We should all fly. Some people save their wings for heaven, mine were meant for rock & roll!

That Soured Taste
- R. Johnson/M. Pineo

You say I'm only dreaming
I don't have the strength
You say I'm only dreaming
I don't have what it takes

I could wait here for you
To rip me apart again
I could wait for you here but you
Destruct again

Can you take strain
Can you not take the strain
Can you take the strain
Can you not take the strain

Nobody's safe
It lingers on
Nobody's safe
It lingers on
Into your taste
Into your taste
Into your taste
That soured taste
