about

Music with Mark
I actually composed this song with lyrics in mind. My house is near the ocean, so it was certainly the inspiration. It’s cool, how i never told Rock what the song as meant for. His lyrics are about being at sea, and fit the vibe perfectly. When my previous project, Ink Realm, was about to take a break we did this super fun show at the Marigold in Truro, opening for Rock that night. The last song we did was this one, with Rock on lead vocals. It translated really well to a live setting and i look forward to doing it again soon.

Chatter with Rock
This is a beautiful song! It was just asking for me to smear it with pretty melodic vocal lines! This was the second song we did and as soon as I first heard the arrangement I knew I had to do this one as well.

Lyrically I wrote this at a very tumultuous time in my life and was sinking into a very deep depression stemming from the demise of a relationship where I cared deeply for the people involved. Depression is very real and it defies logic. It can strike anyone at anytime. It really sucks watching yourself give in to the lows in your life by letting them consume every ounce of who you are. This song is about knowing you need to let go of what you no longer have control of and to carry on with what you do that makes you happy. I'm one of the lucky ones, I'm still here to talk about it. I thank my friends who saw the need, and took the time to help me out when I couldn't ask for it. I picked the ocean/water theme because in the water you are free to go in any direction you choose and the only danger is in giving up and going under. It's about options and choices and having the ability to reflect without beating yourself up over it. It's a daily battle but one worth fighting, life is a wonderful thing, make it what you want it to be.

lyrics

So long
It seems the time has come to bail
Lost at sea like a ship
Without the wind to sail
The broken link got towed along
Never to repair
Sink into Atlantis
Eyes wide with heart elsewhere

Need to drown these memories
Need to wash it from me

Moving on while looking back
Burning out like a cigarette
Passed out beside me
Is the ghost I can't forget
Guided by voices
Of those who seem to know
Been here before
Can't recall the grip of letting go

Can't separate it
Everything is way

Too much a part of me
Left it abandoned
So I swim on
Let the water cover me
Ever angry
With reckless abandon

I don't know about letting go

A silhouette in shadow
A dark side never seen
Following with both eyes closed
And seeing differently
This cut has left a mark
That's deep and festering
Spinning in circles
Falling to infinity

Can't separate it
Everything is way
Too much a part of me
Left it abandoned
So I swim on
Let the water cover me
Ever angry
With reckless abandon

I don't know
Where the problem lies in letting go
Can someone show
The mystery of trying too hard
And never letting go

Make an escape
But I don't wanna fall
I don't wanna fall
I don't wanna fall
I don't wanna fall

I don't know
Where the problem lies in letting go
Can someone show
The mystery of trying too hard
And never letting go
