about

Music with Mark:
Oh my, this is my Rage Against the Machine hangover song. The instrumental part is from 2003 just before i got into less funky and more moody stuff. Did I play guitar like this all the time? yes I did, and when I went back to modernize the production I had to relearn the whole thing, such a blast. Anyway, the chorus on this track is way over the top and just right at the same time. The song could be caled Holy Shit instead because Rock's vocal is just ridiculous here. Probably the performance and production highlights of the album. I am relieved that my part worked too, as the noise in my head rarely comes out properly. Not much to say beyond that really. Maybe the hardest song on the album. Oh, and again Rock is pretty good at singing.

Chatter with Rock:
Funny Mark mentioned hangover, cause that as my state when I wrote this tune. I just laid in bed listening to the track on repeat singing different meldies in my head. The first direction the song pulled me in was that Rock/Hip Hop merge a la Limp Bizkit, which is not a vocal style I've ever tried before. I was leary of writing something in that vein, but it's what I kept coming back to, it fit and it worked!! Bottom line is THIS SONG RIPS!! I was most happy with my one take vocals getting at the words out LOL!

Lyrically I had just attended my first hip hop show in which my cousins group Xplizit (Shout out!) was performing (They were great!). Out in the lobby between acts I kept seeing these "gangsta" 20 year olds pulling out wads of cash acting all tough and hard. Though most of them were pretty nice cats, their image became the characters for the lyrics. I knew a number of these types in high school always lots of money always lots of chicks and beggars and hangers on for miles.

The story was something like...Rebellious rich kid dealing dope thinking he's cool making good coin acting like a big shot and stepping on people along the way. Kid gets busted, everyone around caves around him and those stepped on get the last laugh.
Who's King Shit now? Everybody Else!!

lyrics

You acting hard
Like you weren't just taken down
Little punk
In a no name nowhere town
A beaten down joke
Slugging coke, passing tokes
I bet you make your mama proud

So what's your deal?
Silver spoon leave a bitter taste?
Sunday school back room memory
You can't erase?
Took a thug life to find embrace
In company of parasites who lie in wait

Tumbling down, and it's tumbling down
Nobody's waiting when it's tumbling down
Tumbling down, tumbling down
Nobody's waiting cause it's tumbling down

Who's king shit now?
Who's king shit now?

So what you got
But a shot then you wore it out
Little birdy's talking
All your "boys"gonna sell you out
Orange jump suit style speaking of
Who's rats got the bigger mouth

A temp life that
You're now strangled with
A little high for the life of a middle man
A waste of space, now erased by the triggerman
Always worth the game
Till ya faced with the bitter end

Tumbling down, and it's tumbling down
Nobody's waiting when it's tumbling down
Tumbling down, tumbling down
Nobody's waiting cause you're tumbling down

Who's king shit now?
Who's king shit now?

Solo

And now you wanna go home
And nobody's listening
And now you wanna go home
With nobody listening
Now you wanna go home
There's nobody's listening
You can never go home

Who's king shit now?
Who's king shit now?
